Welcome Blake Lane!

At 5:21 PM, on 7/18/2015, was the day that my perfect, beautiful, and innocent niece was born.

Blake Lane Cagnina. 9 pounds, 1 ounce (I don’t know how you did it, Tate). 21.5 inches.

I type with 100 different emotions. I still haven’t comprehended that my brother is a dad, and that i’m a sixteen year old aunt. Much less can I comprehend that Rikki Jacobson, my mom, is a grandma. If you tell her that, she might kill you, so call her Mimi.

As the hours go by, it is becoming much more apparent of the joy this little girl will be providing my family and I each day, for the rest of our lives.

I’m trying to leave the big story to Tate for her blog, but let’s just say the labor was not easy. It lasted two days with no pain meds (Tatum Miller is one crazy ass mother). MOTHER. Tatum Miller, is a MOM. Wow, still not used to this.

Anyways, we woke up this morning knowing that a baby girl would soon be arriving. We did not figure she would be taking this long. We rushed to the hospital, and found ourselves sitting in the waiting room for quite a bit. Luckily, we shared great company w/ Tate’s parents, Mike and Angie.

We all shared the common distress of having absolutely no idea what was going on.

Cody and Tate, being the independent people they are, decided to keep it more private. None of us were allowed to be in the delivering room, which I think was best in the end. We begged nurses for updates constantly, and found ourselves pacing around with anxiousness. Finally, we took that matter in our own hands.

Little did Tatum know, we spent multiple occasions taking shifts sitting outside of the door just to hear something. Whether it was an agonizing scream, or a beautiful crying baby, we had to hear. Unfortunately, the nurse caught the two crying mothers, and I sitting outside the door. She did not appreciate that very much, we were kicked out instantly. She should’ve known that you can’t tell the Jacobson or Miller family what to do, rookie mistake.

After sitting in the waiting room for what seemed like too long, we sent Mike to do our dirty work. He made his way to their hospital room door, as we waited. He walked back with a smile on his face claiming to have a heard a babies cry. That claim was absolutely correct. Before we knew it, Cody came out of the doors with a smiling face and good news.

Blake Lane Cagnina was born.

BUT… we had to wait another thirty minutes to come in the room, and see this little baby which we were all desperately waiting for. We ate a quick meal at the cafeteria, and found ourselves back at the hospital room.

That will be a moment I will never, ever forget.

I haven’t seen many babies, but oh my lord. This one is just absolutely beautiful. I promise i’m not just saying that because it’s my niece, but that definitely is an obligation of mine now.

There’s just something about seeing a newborn baby. It’s the start of a completely new chapter, and has opened so many doors for our family. I will probably tear up every time I talk about this baby, she took probably 1/2 of my heart the first time I caught a glance. That’s probably because she came from the two people I love the most, and she now has both of them combined within her. Blake, you have some pretty dang good traits.

I can only hope i’m half the nanny that mine was to me (shout out to Laurie Krueger). I have some extremely large shoes to fill. Whether it’s being your best friend, teaching you about boys, or who you go to when you’re annoyed of mom (sorry Tate, it’ll happen), I’ll be there. I’m beyond blessed to have any relation to this beautiful little thing.

I’ll end this by saying, congrats to my brother and soon to be sister-in-law. I’m so proud of the both of you, and thank you for making both sides of our family whole. I’m so excited to watch Blake grow, and to see the both of you as well. I love you three so much.

Xoxo,

Nanny Emilee
