A Tribute to Sydney Galleger ‘

Life.

Too often we forget the meaning of life. Some use it to distinguish the living from the dead, and others say it’s a manner of living. To me, the definition of life is not important, what’s important is how it is measured. Years are just a number. Life is measured by what you accomplish, the people you meet, and the lives you impact. Most of all, how happy you were while living it.

The little amount of time that I knew Sydney Galleger  was not enough. The fact that I had seen her just a day before this tragic event occurred deeply saddens me, and I cannot imagine the unbearable sorrow the family is feeling today, and will feel every day ahead.

From what I know, Sydney was beautiful inside and out. She was kind, generous, and loving to everyone she met. Anyone that had the chance of knowing her felt that it was a privilege, and an honor.  Eden Prairie High School is suffering a huge loss today, and when school starts, I don’t even want to think about it. To share a little comfort of my own, here’s one of my favorite quotes:

“To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” – J.K. Rowling

I would like to think that this quote is where Sydney’s next journey begins. I would like to think that God calls on all of us at just the right time and sends us to the greatest place ever known, Heaven. Sydney’s life was taken far too early, and not one person was prepared for this outcome. The best, and hardest way to look at is that she is going somewhere far better than we could ever imagine. Sydney lived a life not measured by numbers, but how much she impacted others. She provided joy, friendship, and kindness to so many and that I know, will never be forgotten. She will be missed by so many.

After everything, I hope that Sydney’s story will provide some insight to all of us. Life is really freaking short. It doesn’t matter if you’re 100, or 25. It can end just like that. ENJOY EVERYTHING YOU DO. Do what makes you happy. Be a good person. Volunteer. Quit your job if you hate it. Join the clubs you like. Travel the world. Take advantage of opportunities. Most of all, say I love you more times than you can count.

“Life, if well lived, is long enough.” Hug your friends & family. Say some big prayers for the Galleger’s, and most of all remember the beautiful girl named Sydney.
